James Chronister

Glass Summers

2018

Screenprint on archival paper

24 x 17 inches

Sold unframed

A heightened sense of time and memory underlies James Chronister’s photorealist paintings, formed through a labor-intensive process and imbued with layers of historical and psychological space. The San Francisco artist translates photographic source imagery, often his own snapshots, to canvas in oil using a meticulous Pointillist technique. Chronister’s edition for MInnesota Street Project Editions, based on a work from his Glass Summers series, depicts a forest landscape from his native Montana. Here, the artist’s distinct halftone style is rendered in archival ink on newsprint.
